Qatar World Cup Workers’ Conditions Protest at Stamford Bridge
This Saturday at 3pm before Chelsea’s game with Manchester United the Chelsea Supporters Trust and Playfair Qatar invite Chelsea supporters to join in a group photo protest aimed at improving the welfare and rights of workers constructing the stadia in Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

To date, more than 1,400 workers have died building these stadia as well as other related projects and it is estimated over 4,000 in total will perish before a ball is kicked at the controversial World Cup in seven years’ time. Not only are these deaths entirely unacceptable and reprehensible, but Qatar’s kafala system of employment behind it is akin to modern day slavery. Immigrant workers are paid pennies by the hour – some going without any pay whatsoever – and are bound to their employer, unable to change jobs or even leave the country without permission, for which there is no obligation to be given.
The meeting point for the protest is at the cfcuk stall opposite the main entrance to Fulham Broadway tube station at 3pm with a group photo planned to take place in front of the West Stand / Britannia Gate Entrance. Supporters arriving later can still have their photos taken with the Playfair Qatar placards up until kick off.

Please do join us this Saturday as Chelsea FC supporters and fans of all clubs have the chance to pressure FIFA and the Qatari government to improve workers’ conditions and livelihoods and to stop sport’s most famous global competition from being tarnished any further than it already has.
