The Chelsea Supporters Trust were once more delighted to be match sponsor for the Chelsea Ladies Legends Charity match game that was played this year at Horsham Town FC on Sunday 22 June 2025.
A beautiful sunny day saw the Chelsea Ladies Legends play the Chelsea Ladies Academy and over 3k was raised from the game for the Shooting Star Children Hospice Hampton who are there to supports parents and siblings in the very worst moments of their lives. The Academy side ran out 4-1 winners with a hat trick from Ella Bale, an own goal and Naomi Cole a consolation goal for the Legends.
A big shout out to Dr Julie Haddock-Millar lucky winner of a signed Millie Bright shirt and equally massive shout out to Millie for donating her shirt which raised £1120 for Shooting Star.
A special pre match tribute on the stadium scoreboard was also made to the late Paul Lagan journalist and long standing Chelsea fan who passed away a few weeks earlier. Paul was a champion of the Chelsea Womens team from its early amateur days and could be found at Kingsmeadow on match days as often as you would see him at Stamford Bridge.
RIP Paul Lagan 24.4.1959 to 1.5.2025.
The second legends game for the Brian Mills Memorial Trophy saw once more nearly 40 former players and academy players from the original Chelsea Ladies side that were the trailblazers for the modern day successful trophy winning side that is Chelsea WFC. Well done to former manager Tony Farmer for organising the event.
Just over thirty years ago at the start of 1993/94 season Tony Farmer set up a Chelsea women’s team that he wanted one day to able to compete and win trophies at the highest level. Over the decades the Chelsea Women’s team moved through the women’s football pyramid with increasing support from Chelsea FC. Then in the summer of 2013 Emma Hayes arrived and the rest was history. Last year’s charity game took place just after Chelsea had won their fifth successive WSL title as Chelsea said farewell to Emma Hayes and soon said bonjour to Sonia Bompastor. A year later Chelsea WFC had a very successful treble winning season. Unrivalled.
Mark Meehan who is Chair of the CST has long links to the women’s team, when over 30 years ago as part of the Chelsea Independent Supporters Associations they sponsored an advert meaning the newly formed Chelsea Ladies team could produce a matchday programme that was ahead of anything womens teams were producing in the 90’s. That in turn helped find other sponsorship helping keep the club alive and grow and grow to what it is today
Over 30 years later the Chelsea Supporters Trust were proud to be once again sponsoring Chelsea Ladies legends and look forward to next years Legends Game.
