The Chelsea Supporters Trust and Chelsea Heritage Partnership are pleased to sponsor a charity match at Dorking Wanderers FC on Sunday 26 May at 3.30pm organised by Tony Farmer who founded Chelsea Ladies in 1992 the forerunners that has become the extremely successful Chelsea Women’s team we now see today.

The event will be a unique opportunity to see the founding players of Chelsea Women’s team in action for the very first time since the 1990’s in a Charity Match to raise funds for girls grassroots projects.

The match will be between the Legends Team including players from 1992 to 1997 and the Academy Team including players from 1996 to 2004. Women’s football was far from accepted in 1992 and Chelsea FC was a very different club.

These players had to overcome prejudices to even play the game. They were told they would “embarrass the club, and would “achieve nothing.” These players changed attitudes, overcame the hurdles and, the perception of Chelsea FC. They wore the badge with pride, won numerous trophies along the way but their greatest achievement was by 1994 hearing fans say they are “our women’s team.”

Their efforts and determination paved the way for all the players that followed and laid the foundations of what is now one of the best teams in Europe.

We are pleased to lend our support to this event and would encourage as many Chelsea supporters as possible to get along to Dorking Wanderers on Sunday 26 May to not only celebrate those who started the Chelsea Women’s football journey but also celebrate Chelsea Women’s FC getting through to UEFA Champions League Final.

If anyone would like more details or wish to get involved in sponsoring the game you can contact Tony Farmer at [email protected]
